Privacy notice
Last updated: 13 September 2026
Whereabouts? is the data controller for personal information handled through whereaboutsguide.co.uk. You can contact us at whereaboutsguide@gmail.com.
Information we use
If you suggest a correction or contact us, we receive the information you put in your email, including your email address, the venue concerned and your suggested change. The correction form creates an email in your own email application; the website does not submit or store the form contents itself.
Your location
If you choose “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission. Your approximate coordinates are used in your browser to sort venues by distance. Whereabouts? does not receive or store that location. You can refuse permission or turn it off in your browser settings.
Why we use contact information
We use correction and enquiry emails to check venue information, reply to you, prevent misuse and improve the directory. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating an accurate, useful service. You do not have to provide this information, but without it we may be unable to verify or answer your request.
Sharing and retention
Email is handled by Google’s Gmail service. We may contact a venue or consult public sources to verify a correction, but we will not normally share your contact details with the venue. We do not sell personal information. We normally delete correction correspondence within 12 months after the request is resolved, unless it is reasonably needed for security, disputes or legal obligations.
Cookies and external services
Whereabouts? does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. The hosting service may use strictly necessary technology for security and operation. Links to Google, Tripadvisor, social networks and venue websites take you to services with their own privacy practices.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase or restrict our use of your personal information. Email us to exercise a right. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Your right to object
You have the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Email us and explain your objection; we will stop unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue or need the information for legal claims.
Changes
We may update this notice as the service develops. The date above shows the latest revision.
